Over the last few months in a number of posts I have questioned the assumption of so many fashion pages that there is something pernicious about nationalism. There is, of course, such a thing as venomous nationalism but there is no fundamental law that nation and malice are twins.
I simply have no idea how the typical fashion pages on the hatred embedded in nationalism can speak coherently about the new Burberry video. It is nostalgic and sweet, and is set in the countryside of the north of England where I grew up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1FTeQyEViQ
Here is the pop video of the song. The original video is a sober look at the economic reality of the north of England post `70’s. It’s a great song about longing for something brighter though the fashion in the video leaves something to be desired. Actually, there was a flourishing New Wave/Goth culture in northern England in those days and some looked rather cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UXnulANF8g
