The article is a critique of fast fashion and is an appeal for slowness (see V&R, Chapter 2 on this idea) in our use of, and attachment to, clothes. It points to the Japanese aesthetic principle of appreciating the well-worn, or well-lived in. A lovely example is the film Totoro.
